Goal Type:

Half Marathon Finish

Running Accomplishments:

My personal best running record was when I was 24.  I was engaged, but didn't fit in my wedding dress.  Running several days per week altered me so that the dress could be worn without being let out.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run a half-marathon with my sister.  (She doesn't know it yet.) I will have to run fast to keep up with that lucky skunk.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Learn to love running.  If that happens, then I may want to run a marathon someday.

Personal:

Married.  One supportive husband, four beautiful daughters and one busy son.

Ran fast for 1.25 miles of the 3 total today.  Felt great.  Fastest pace was 6.7 min mile.  I kept that up for nearly .25 miles.  I probably could have run a whole lap at that pace, but my mind was filled with the doubting thoughts of "wow--Nan really ran 24 miles at this pace!  She must be superwoman because I can't even run a lap at this pace."  I probably could have made it all the way around if I had filled my mind with "I think I can" thoughts.

Yeah, Little Blue Engine thoughts always help. Do you track your mileage with a Garmin or just run measured course or a track? Way to go!

Way to go Elisse! I'm really proud of you. We need to pick a race to work towards!

Nice job Elisse!

One thing to remember though is that it doesn't really matter how fast you go at this point. I personally find a lot of enjoyment and benefit from running at the pace I feel like running. Sometimes it feels good to go fast, sometimes it feels good to go slow...either way is fine, just listen to your body. If you constantly try to hit some certain time, before your body is ready for that, that's a good way to injure yourself and that takes you out of the game. If you let your body do its thing, and enjoy being out there, over time it will get more fit, and you'll notice yourself going faster with the same effort. Just my two cents.
