Location: McKinney,TX,USA Member Since: Mar 03, 2010 Gender: Female Goal Type: Half Marathon Finish Running Accomplishments: My personal best running record was when I was 24. I was engaged, but didn't fit in my wedding dress. Running several days per week altered me so that the dress could be worn without being let out. Short-Term Running Goals: Run a half-marathon with my sister. (She doesn't know it yet.) I will have to run fast to keep up with that lucky skunk. Long-Term Running Goals: Learn to love running. If that happens, then I may want to run a marathon someday. Personal: Married. One supportive husband, four beautiful daughters and one busy son. Favorite Blogs:

Last night I read something that said runners should strike on the ball of the foot, not the heal, so I started out this morning trying to do that. It felt great! I felt so fast. I ran one mile using the ball-strike method, and then walked one mile. I feel great. It took me 30 minutes to do both miles.

Mostly walked. Ran some at a pace of 10 min/ mile. Ran some at a pace of 8:34 min/ mile. The first leg at a fast pace was hard, but the other two were much easier. I ran .25 at 8:34 pace and felt great. I'm looking forward to running with Aaron and Nan and Ashley--I picked Ashley as a potential race partner because I feel confident that with practice and training, I can learn to run as fast as her, but Nan is another set of standards altogether!

Ran fast for 1.25 miles of the 3 total today. Felt great. Fastest pace was 6.7 min mile. I kept that up for nearly .25 miles. I probably could have run a whole lap at that pace, but my mind was filled with the doubting thoughts of "wow--Nan really ran 24 miles at this pace! She must be superwoman because I can't even run a lap at this pace." I probably could have made it all the way around if I had filled my mind with "I think I can" thoughts.

Ran just under .25 on the treadmill at 6:40 pace. It's really fast. I ran two other fast laps, but not nearly as fast as that. I know that I have to build up to speed, but I want to keep trying some laps at the target pace or above so that my legs will know what fast means. No, I don't have a garmin yet. I am sure that once I start taking this routine out on the road I will need one, but for now, I've been measuring my running by laps on the treadmill (it diagrams 1/4 mile laps as you run) or by a known and measured street trail in front of my house. One of the things that I like about trying to go really fast for just one lap is that even though it's hard, the faster I go, the quicker the hard run is over.

This was one of those nights. Every time I got on the treadmill, someone needed me (the phone, the baby, the big kids, etc.) The .67 that I did run was spread over three or four tries. After the last interruption, I was too discouraged to get back on the treadmill.

Finally got over the discouragement from last Wednesday, and got on the treadmill for a short run. I also got new running shoes to eliminate that excuse. And I found a lady who is also a non-runner with fast-running goals. She wants to run the Boston Marathon. We will run together twice a week starting on March 23.

First run with my new partner. Feels great to get up and get the run done right away. I was so productive the rest of the day knowing that I had already taken the time to run.

Second run with my new partner. It's great to have that motivation to get out the door and get it done.
